About Us

At Odyssea Adventures, we believe the ocean is more than a playground — it’s a living, breathing world worth protecting. Every dive is an opportunity not only to explore, but also to connect, to learn, and to be inspired to care for the blue planet that sustains us all.

Our story began with a single life-changing dive: a mother and son exploring shipwrecks, turtles, and sharks off Oahu. That spark grew into a lifelong calling — from coral and shark restoration projects in Bali to guiding divers through San Diego’s kelp forests — and became the foundation of Odyssea Adventures.

Today, our ethos is simple: immerse, educate, protect.

  • Immerse guests in unforgettable underwater experiences that blend adventure with wonder.
  • Educate divers, snorkelers and water people of all levels, empowering them with the knowledge and confidence to explore safely and responsibly.
  • Protect the ocean by fostering awareness, conservation-minded practices, and respect for every creature we encounter.

Outreach and education are at the heart of what we do. Whether it’s teaching a new diver to trust their breath, showing a seasoned adventurer the hidden rhythms of a kelp forest, or hosting specialty events that highlight ocean conservation, our mission is to create ocean advocates — not just ocean visitors. We want every guest to leave the water feeling both awe and responsibility, empowered to defend the sea and the life within it.

At Odyssea Adventures, diving is more than a skill. It’s a way to belong to the ocean — and to stand up for it.
Welcome to your Odyssea.

ABOUT ME

Hey, I'm Fletcher!

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and my journey to becoming the founder and CEO of Odyssea Adventures.

  • Thousands of dives
  • Master Instructor
  • Passion for the ocean

There is wisdom that is gained after every dive and I couldn’t get enough of it. I can’t wait to share my passion, knowledge, and experience diving in the world’s oceans with you. Scuba diving will give you access to witnessing worlds unknown, to coming closer to wildlife than you thought was possible and to respecting something that is much greater than oneself.

About Me

Our Team

Leila S. - Master Scuba Diver Trainer, PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor

If you’re looking for a scuba diving instructor who’s traded in their economics textbooks for a life of underwater shenanigans, Leila’s your gal. With 18 years of diving experience and a passion for ocean conservation that rivals her love of nudibranches, she’s ditched the 9-to-5 to teach people how to breathe underwater without freaking out. She’s taught in Mexico, Colombia, and the US, and can yell at you in Dutch, English, and Spanish if you don’t follow safety protocols.

Leila’s PADI courses include all the usual suspects, plus some fancy stuff like wreck diving and fish identification, because who doesn’t want to be a marine life detective? She calls herself an “ambling scuba diver,” which is just a fancy way of saying she likes to take her sweet time underwater, observing the sea creatures and probably making friends with the octopuses.

Kevin H. – PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor & Marine Biologist

Kevin — our resident science nerd turned ocean whisperer. His dive story started in Makassar, Indonesia, where he joined a coral restoration project and accidentally fell head-over-fins for marine science. What began as a volunteer gig planting coral fragments became the start of a lifelong mission to protect what lies beneath the surface.

After earning his degree in Marine Biology from UC San Diego, Kevin dove even deeper into the field — literally — working as a Lab Technician and Research Assistant at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. These days, he splits his time between the lab and the water, blending research with real-world diving to connect science and sea.

As a PADI Instructor, Kevin brings calm focus, contagious curiosity, and a knack for turning complicated ocean facts into “aha” moments underwater. Dive with him and you’ll learn more than just buoyancy — you’ll leave with a new appreciation for the ecosystems we’re lucky enough to explore.

Alex J. - PADI Divemaster

Alex — our pint-sized powerhouse with a sharp eye, sharper wit, and a pair of corgis that could outshine most influencers. Originally from Germany, Alex has called San Diego home for the past six years, swapping schnitzel for fish tacos and falling hard for SoCal’s salty, sun-soaked lifestyle.

A professional Divemaster with a zero-BS attitude and a heart of gold, Alex balances underwater leadership with life above the surface — running her own photography business and tutoring kids on the side. If she’s not guiding dives or editing photos, you’ll find her hiking a ridgeline, chasing sunsets on a paddleboard, or dragging friends to the best hole-in-the-wall restaurants in town.

She’s equal parts spicy and sweet — one minute cracking jokes, the next patiently helping a nervous diver remember how to breathe underwater. Dive with Alex and you’ll get a safe, unforgettable adventure… with a little sass, a lot of heart, and maybe a few well-placed curse words.

Joy A. - PADI Divemaster

Meet Joy — a Brazilian ocean addict with a passport full of stamps and a wetsuit that’s seen more countries than most people. Her dive journey began in the warm, glassy waters of Brazil, but she didn’t stop there. She’s worked on the Great Barrier Reef, wandered through Asia’s underwater playgrounds, and chased bubbles across the globe.

But it was California’s wild kelp forests and playful sea lions that truly stole her heart. One dive at La Jolla Cove and she was hooked — especially after a sea lion tried to photobomb her selfie. Today, Joy calls the waters of La Jolla and Catalina Island her favorite underwater homes (and she swears the local sea lions know her by name).

As a divemaster, Joy leads with safety, follows up with fun, and always brings a contagious love for the ocean. If you’re lucky, she might even show you the secret spot where the fish do backflips.

Kris H. - PADI Divemaster

Meet Kris — a Georgia native who swapped city streets for saltwater dreams. An avid traveler, outdoor enthusiast, and newly minted sailboat owner, she’s as comfortable at the helm as she is on a hiking trail or climbing route. Her loyal sidekick? Piper, her one-eyed adventure pup, who sees the world just fine when it comes to sniffing out fun (and the occasional post-dive snack).

Scuba wasn’t always part of the plan — in fact, Kris once feared it. But three years ago, she faced that fear, took the plunge, and fell head over fins for the ocean. Now a PADI Divemaster and travel nurse, she balances caring for people on land with guiding them safely underwater.

Whether she’s leading dives in San Diego’s kelp forests, chasing wind under sail, or hopping on a plane for her next big adventure, Kris brings a calm, adventurous spirit and a big smile that makes everyone feel at home — above and below the surface.

If you’re lucky, you’ll spot Kris and Piper together on the dock or the boat — one ready to dive, the other ready to slobber you with kisses!

Jaylan D. - PADI Assistant Open Water Instructor

Meet Jaylan — a lifelong ocean dreamer who turned fascination into vocation. What started as a “pipe dream” became a mission: to explore the underwater world and share it with others.

Armed with a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography, a camera, a PADI Divemaster certification, and relentless determination, Jaylan has logged countless dives — from the kelp forests of La Jolla to the open blue off Isla Guadalupe. It was there, just feet from a breaching great white shark, that he captured one of his proudest moments: filming these apex predators in their element, their speed and grace frozen in a split second of shutter click.

When he’s not behind the lens, Jaylan is guiding divers with calm assurance, teaching the next generation of ocean lovers, or helping new students find their fins. For him, every dive is an opportunity — to inspire awe, to capture beauty, and to remind us all how extraordinary life beneath the surface can be.

Zach S. – First Mate & Future Captain

Zach — another New England transplant with an easy grin, quick one-liners, and salt water running permanently through his veins. Born in Sacramento and raised outside Boston, he’s been chasing adventure since day one — snowboarding, hiking, spearfishing, or diving into any body of water deep enough to hold his attention. Before settling in San Diego eight years ago, Zach spent his twenties exploring the rugged New England coastline, where he crossed paths with Captain Fletcher and got hooked (literally and figuratively) on the underwater world. What started as a weekend hobby turned into a lifelong obsession — one that’s taken him from the icy waters of Rhode Island to the coral reefs of Maui, Puerto Rico, and Baja California.

With 15+ years in hospitality, bluefin tuna deckhand grit, and a calm confidence that keeps things steady no matter the swell, Zach brings both humor and heart to every trip. These days, you’ll find him aboard Odyssea’s boats as First Mate — keeping divers safe, spirits high, and working toward his captain’s license and his own collection of scuba certifications. Because for Zach, life’s better offshore — where the Wi-Fi’s gone, the jokes flow freely, and every day ends with salt in his hair and a story worth telling.
